Since a great storm in 1987, when a large number of trees were destroyed or badly damaged on Brockwell Park, the friends of Brockwell Park have run a donation scheme to plant trees in the park.

A large group, including the donors, toured the park visiting the new trees. Here we heard stories behind why the trees were donated which included a birth, death and marriage.

The bi-annual charity fun walk on Keston Common to raise funds for St Christophers Hospice. I joined the Mayor and Mayoress from Bromley, Mayor of Southwark and the Deputy Mayor of Croydon for a short three mile walk, with other circuits up to 11 miles.

As a conclusion to the family day event this musical evening was an opportunity for emerging groups to showcase their talent and gain exposure. Whilst there I had a chance to look around their new building in Wellfield Road in Streatham and hear about the work they are doing there.

The event was Streatham Youth and Community Trust’s contribution to the national family week initiative with fun activities and workshops throughout the day. I was pleased to see Keith Hill MP at the event and we were given a dance lesson where I discovered Keith was a much better dancer than me.

At a time when many businesses are struggling I am always pleased to support businesses that are trialling new initiatives or expanding. Costcutter in Waterloo have opened a new food counter with fresh hot foods on offer.

At the event to celebrate the opening of the counter I was pleased to receive a cheque for £500 donated by the owners of the store to the Mayors charities.
