Set up in 1995 in the old school building of St. Mary’s primary school on St.Alphonsus Road, Ace of Clubs is the only day centre for homeless people in south London to be open 365 days a year.
There are around 1900 members. Ace of Clubs aims to guide homeless or vulnerable people towards a more secure way of life. This is achieved by providing free professional advice and emotional support so that people can make informed and responsible decisions about their lives. In addition to this advice, meals are available every day, laundry and shower facilities, healthcare and leisure activities are also provided.
After meeting volunteers on a cycle project which repairs and supplies bikes to the homeless and vunerable we toured the gardens which were truly fantastic, and after attending London in Bloom I was quick to recommend they enter next year.
I visited the kitchens where hot food was being prepared much of which has been donated by local businesses and organisations. The food looked nutrious and delicious providing valuable nutrition to their users.
