Hibert Almshouses are situation off Wandsworth Road, and what a delightful group of houses they are. I was delighted to meet one of their eldest residents and then join other residents with their families and friends in the beautiful communal gardens at the rear of the homes.

I was struck by the huge amount of history of the area that some of the residents and those involved in the Almshouses retain. Memories of when bombs were dropped on the area which is now Heath Road estate during the second world war.

The weather was beautiful and the Pimms delicious. A lovely evening and I hope to be invited back again soon.

This annual church fair supports the local community and the church and this year the chosen charity is Home-Start Lambeth.

At the event I met stall holders including Sue Lilly who won a Civic Award this year and fellow councillors from Clapham Town Cllr Helen O’Malley and Cllr Nigel Haselden. I also popped by to see Friends of Clapham Common who had a stall at the event.

The most important duty of the afternoon was the prize draw.
