This year the event supported the gay mens health charity GMFA, Vauxhall City Farm and the friends of Spring Gardens.

To open the event I had to say a few words then throw a golden handbag. Proving my total ability to throw anything I went on to throw the handbag behind me instead of into the crowd 🙂 Luckily the participants in the sports day did a much better job and as the sun shone down on Spring Gardens there was a whole host of events including egg and spoon races and tug of war.

I was very impressed by one entrant dressed as Joanna Lumley, complete with high heals, taking part in the tug of war. Unfortunately the heals were not very helpful when trying to get footing. He told me later he brought the heals from Brixton market – so if you are a size 8 and looking for some high heals you know where to head.

Joanna Lumley, hearing that her support for the gurkas had prompted the theme for three of the teams had rather sportingly donated prices which were later auctioned at the after part at the RVT.

A great day, with a huge crowd growing throughout the event.

We were shown around by a star student from Lambeth who had clearly benefited from the work done at the school. It was great to see the wide variety of studies done by the students and hear from them how attending Five bridges had really changed their attitudes towards learning.
