Both the Mayoress and I were extremely excitied to have received our invite from the Lord Chamberlain to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. My Ivite read.. The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by Her Majesty to invite Councillor Christopher Wellbelove to a Garden Party at Buckingham Place on Tuesday, 14 July 2009 from 4 to 6pm.
We joined a short queue at the gate and after the security check was soon in the grounds of the Palace. This is a rare occasion that I am alone with the valuable Mayoral chains, however given the amount of Police in the area I felt very safe.
As we walked through the courtyard I thought of the many government leaders who the queen has greeted there over the years. After briefly walking through the rear building we were soon in Buckingham Palace’s beautiful garden filled with over invitees.
After the Queen was greeted with the sound of the national anthem we were treated to a cup of tea, sandwiches and cakes. The Queen made her way to the Ambassadors tent and we then took some time to explore the beautiful gardens.
It was a huge privalage to have been invited and I was delighted to attend representing the borough of Lambeth. We met and chatted with Mayors from other parts of the country and took time to listen to the military bands playing in the garden.
Glad you enjoyed your day, I went last year and it was an amazing experience.
